SOCIAL FIT(R) PROGRAM

Social Fit(R) Therapeutic Program
Created by Tracey Stoll/Learning Solutions, LLC 2013

A Social Learning Program to Strengthen Body, Mind, and Self
Individuals struggling with social learning challenges work hard each day to navigate communal environments, and “fit” in with peers.

  • A non-competitive, recreational program incorporating social learning/ executive functioning instruction, while integrating into community settings (camps, after-school, community clubs).
  • Programming is designed for developmentally high functioning learners who are challenged with anxiety, attention and social deficits that make participating in community programs difficult.
  • Social Fit(R) is designed to help students transition into recreational programs with their peers, with limited support and greater independence over time.
  • Social Fit(R) strives to strengthen young learners in their ability to "read" the environment for relevant social information; determine how best to communicate needs; and build the confidence to participate actively and consistently in healthy, FUN community programs alongside their peers.
  • Social Fit (R) is a 3-component program designed to support and strengthen learners’ growth and ability, knowledge, endurance, and self-confidence.

The 3 Components of Social Fit (R)

  1. Body Fit: Encompasses physical endurance, strength, muscle memory, motor-planning, sensory system need for regulation, and Executive Functioning skills governing our ability to inhibit impulsive responses and reactions.

    Sample Activities:

Supported integration into beginner level sports class.
  • Supported therapeutic exercise.
  • Sensory satisfying and regulating activities to calm and adjust sensory stimulation experienced within an active environment.
  • Supported team-oriented games requiring collaboration to meet a group goal.
  • Instruction and reinforcement of healthy habits.

  1. Mind Fit: Encourages cognitive understanding of social awareness, verbal and non-verbal social “rules”, behavior, communal rules, and attention to directions.  Enhances the development and use of executive functioning skills governing our ability manipulate and apply learned information.

    Sample Activities:
  • Instruction in Social curriculum.
  • Instruction in learned strategy to take social notes (SNAP® curriculum) to inform decision making when interacting with others in a common environment.
  • Instruction in attention building activities within small groups.
  • Instruction in following multiple step directions to complete a group project, game or goal.
  • Instruction in emotional regulation and coping strategies that allow individuals to take social risks within a supported, safe peer group.

  1. Self Fit: The confidence and self-esteem that build over time through fulfilling social moments and experiences. Developing self-awareness of comfort level and strategies to access within group interaction.  Reinforcing self-motivation to be social and work harder!

    Sample Activities:
  • Verbal and experiential reinforcement from peers and staff noticing strength and skill building.
  • Instruction in giving and receiving positive feedback within a supported peer group.
  • Physiological, physical, and emotional strength and skill
building experiences that promote healthier outlook on
sharing space, time, and interactions within a community of peers and adults.

"The Social Fit Program was fantastic!  Each and every staff member was incredible!  He was picked up with a smile every class and never wanted to leave! The help they gave him in the social skills area was invaluable.  Tracey, Mike, Samara, Maria, Wendy (and all the other staff we encountered); we cannot thank you enough for the efforts you put in to work with the kids. It truly shines through, and you definitely are making a difference with what you do!"
Nancy P. - Nanny/Caretaker

"My son had the experience of working with the Social Fit(R)/Learning Solutions team this past winter and spring.  The combination of social skills group as well as physical and sensory activity proved to be wonderful for him! It balanced his week in a way I never thought it would.  He enjoyed it so much; and Mike, Maria and Wendy were fantastic with him! This program builds social skills and helps the kids to work together.  Thank you so much Learning Solutions!
